Somalia: Angry protesters block main roads in Mogadishu in an effort to get general Sheegow released

Demonstrators angry at the arrest of Shegow Ahmed Ali, an officer who fought with the security forces in the capital of Mogadishu, who was arrested yesterday, crowded in some of the important streets of the capital, chanting words demanding that the general be released.

All businesses were closed on Maka Al-Mukamara Street, which is the main centre of the city, and the demonstrators were composed of children, youth, adults and women who were chanting words demanding the immediate release of general Sheegow.

Videos recorded from the protesters and disseminated on the social media showed that they were going to the Somali Presidency, with the army using live bullets on the protesters according to reports.

The security department of the capital has not released any information about the standstill of traffic in Mogadishu, as yesterday the work at the Aden Adde airport was stopped after mortars hit the airport.

Police have reportedly accused general Sheegow Ahmed Ali of destabilising the security of the capital and fighting against the security forces.
