Somalia sends condolences to Indonesia after Flores Island Earthquake

The Federal Government of Somalia has expressed condolences to Indonesia following a powerful earthquake that struck Flores Island, leaving dozens of people dead, injuring others and displacing more than 5,000 families.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on August 20, Somalia conveyed its condolences to the Indonesian government and people, as well as families who lost loved ones in the disaster.

Somalia also expressed solidarity with Indonesia during the difficult period and commended Indonesian authorities and emergency responders for their efforts to reach affected communities and provide urgent assistance.

The ministry said Somalia was praying for the recovery of those injured, comfort for bereaved families and strength for communities affected by the disaster as they begin the process of rebuilding.

Somalia and Indonesia are both members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), with the ministry noting that the two countries share longstanding ties of faith and friendship.

The statement comes as Indonesian authorities continue relief and recovery efforts in areas affected by the earthquake.
