Somalia says joint Airstrike kills 26 Al-Shabaab fighters in Middle Shabelle Region

The Federal Government of Somalia has announced that a joint airstrike carried out in coordination with one of the partner countries supporting aerial operations resulted in the deaths of 26 members of Al-Shabaab fighters.

According to the statement, the strike took place in the Middle Shabelle Region specifically in the localities of Cadow Jilib, Gayfo, and Qoordheere.

The government said the operation was carefully planned and successfully carried out against its intended targets.

The announcement further stated that, in addition to the reported casualties, a vehicle and a fuel tanker being used to support al-Shabaab were reportedly destroyed during the raid.

The Ministry of National Defense thanked the leadership of the Somali National Army for confirming that operations targeting al-Shabaab members will continue until the group is fully driven out of areas under its control, as described in the government’s remarks.

The Somali government added that military actions are underway across areas linked to Hirshabelle, South West, Galmudug, and Jubaland involving both airstrikes and ground operations carried out by forces currently deployed on the ground.
