A fierce battle has reportedly erupted in Dharjaale, located in the mountainous Calmiskaad region of Bari, between Puntland State security forces and ISIS militants.
The clash reportedly began with a vehicle-borne explosive device targeting security personnel stationed in the area.
Following the explosion, intense face-to-face combat ensued between the two sides, resulting in casualties. However, exact figures of those killed or injured remain unconfirmed at this time.
Puntland security forces have intensified their operations against ISIS in recent weeks, with sources confirming that troops have been mobilizing in Dharjaale since the attack. Reinforcements have reportedly reached both sides, though the fighting has subsided for now.
In response to the attack, Puntland security forces have reportedly conducted a sweep of the area in pursuit of the assailants.
An official spokesperson for the forces reported that eight ISIS members were killed during the engagement, adding that the death toll could be higher.
