Somalia President receives credentials from Seven new Ambassadors

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has received the Letters of Credence of seven newly appointed ambassadors representing Algeria, Brazil, India, Mali, Myanmar, Nigeria and Pakistan at the Villa Somalia Presidential Palace.

The ambassadors were accorded full diplomatic honours, including a guard of honour by members of the Somali armed forces, before presenting their credentials to the President.

The newly accredited diplomats are Mohamed Alim of Algeria, Joao Alfredo dos Anjos of Brazil, Dr. Adarsh Swaika of India, Dr. Madou Diallo of Mali, Aung Min Oo of Myanmar, Danlami Ibrahim of Nigeria and Aqsa Nawaz of Pakistan.

During separate engagements, President Hassan Sheikh heard from the ambassadors about their priorities and plans for strengthening relations with Somalia. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in political and diplomatic affairs, trade and investment, development, security and social sectors.

The accreditation of the seven ambassadors comes as Somalia continues to strengthen its diplomatic engagement with countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Aqsa Nawaz’s appointment is particularly notable as she is the first woman appointed by Pakistan to serve as its ambassador to Somalia, marking a new development in diplomatic representation between Mogadishu and Islamabad.

The Somali government is expected to work with the newly accredited ambassadors to deepen bilateral relations and advance areas of mutual interest between Somalia and their respective countries.
