Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has instructed the Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre to establish the Independent Commission for National Elections and the Independent Boundaries and Federal Commission.
A document issued by the Somali Presidency stated that the Independent Commission for National Elections has completed its mandate of 6 years and the Constitution does not provide it to be renewed.
The Federal Government is about to establish the Independent Commission for National Elections to work to ensure that the country will hold a universal Election.
The President has in the past called for a one man one vote and the move appears to be gearing stage to set the infrastructure for one man one vote election.
The decision of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to revoke the approval of the law amending the provisions established by the Independent Commission for National, Boundaries and commission on Federal Elections came after the Upper House approval took place before December 31, 2020 which was inconsistent with the procedure.
The President of the Federal Republic has instructed the Federal Government of Somalia to establish the members of the Independent Committee for National Elections and the members of the Independent Boundaries and Federal Committee in accordance with Article 112 of the provisional Constitution of the Federal Government.
