Somalia launches Fisheries Week 2026 to boost investment opportunities

Somalia has launched the National Somali Fisheries Week 2026, bringing together senior government officials, federal and state ministers, and international partners to strengthen the country’s fisheries sector.

The event is led by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama, alongside key stakeholders committed to developing Somalia’s fishing industry and attracting investment.

The annual forum provides a platform for government institutions, development partners, and investors to discuss opportunities for sustainable fisheries development.

Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening partnerships, improving cooperation, and unlocking the economic potential of Somalia’s extensive coastline and marine resources.

Somalia’s fisheries sector is considered a vital source of employment, food security, and economic growth, particularly for coastal communities that depend on fishing for their livelihoods.

The forum also seeks to encourage responsible fishing practices and sustainable management of marine resources to ensure long-term benefits for current and future generations.

Through the annual initiative, Somalia aims to expand investment opportunities, strengthen the fisheries value chain, and position the sector as an important contributor to national economic development.
