The commander of the Somali Land Forces Gen. Dayah Abdi Abdulle said that more than 80 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the last 48 hours of fighting in the areas of Caad and Barag Sheikh Ismail under Harardhere district in Mudug region.
The commander who spoke to the national media this morning, indicated that the federal government forces backed by the Galmudug and the organised local forces, drove Al-Shabaab out of key areas that they had occupied and created bases and hideouts where they used to organize attacks.
Over the past few days the federal army, and local Maawislay forces have engaged in fierce combat, securing parts of the regions and targeting AS fighters in target to liberate new areas.
“In a vast and mountainous area where these men had hideouts, bases and the forces removed them after serious battle, Those men were defeated and the area cleared,” said the commander.
The commander added that the government has recovered a large number of weapons, saying that in the coming days they present to the media the areas seized from al-Shabaab and the damage they suffered.
