Hirshabelle state authorities have announced plans to launch a major offensive against the militant group Al-Shabaab in the coming weeks.
The declaration was made during a frontline visit by top regional officials, including the President of Hirshabelle, Ali Gudlawe.
President Gudlawe visited military frontlines where Somali National Army troops and local forces have been engaged in ongoing battles against Al-Shabaab.
During the visit, he received detailed briefings from military commanders on the current situation and upcoming plans.
One of the key areas visited by the delegation was the Wargaadhi area in the Middle Shabelle region, where significant mobilization is underway.
The president urged the troops to intensify their operations and maintain momentum in the fight.
In a statement released by the Hirshabelle Presidency, it was noted that a united campaign will be launched soon to decisively end Al-Shabaab’s presence in the region. “In the coming weeks, a unified offensive will bring an end to the Al-Shabaab operation,” the statement read.
The Somali government forces have already been conducting tough operations along the border of Hiraan and Lower Shabelle regions. Officials claim these efforts have resulted in the recapture of several key areas from the militant group.
