Somalia and Türkiye have discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in healthcare, including hospital development, specialist medical training and the modernisation of health services.
Somalia’s Minister of Health, Ali Haji Adam, held talks with his Turkish counterpart, Kemal Memişoğlu, in Istanbul, where the two sides explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation between their health institutions.
The discussions included “plans for the construction of a new hospital in Warsheekh, as well as improvements to Erdoğan Hospital in Mogadishu” .
The ministers also discussed expanding specialist medical training to strengthen the capacity of Somali healthcare professionals and improving health systems through closer institutional cooperation.
The engagement reflects Somalia’s efforts to improve access to healthcare, strengthen medical infrastructure and develop local capacity through partnerships with international governments.
Türkiye has been an important partner in Somalia’s development, particularly in healthcare, infrastructure and humanitarian assistance.
The proposed hospital projects and training initiatives are expected to support ongoing efforts to improve the quality and availability of medical services in Somalia.
