Somalia’s Chief of National Armed Forces, Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhiyidin, met with senior Turkish military officials in Mogadishu on Saturday to discuss deepening the military collaboration between the two countries.
This high-level meeting focused on further advancing the partnership that has already seen Turkey actively involved in training and equipping the Somali National Army (SNA), particularly through the development of the elite Gorgor special forces unit.
The discussions also covered the technical aspects of implementing the Somalia-Turkey Defense and Economic Pact, aiming to build Somalia’s defense capabilities while fostering stability in the region. Turkey’s longstanding military support to Somalia has included training facilities and strategic resources, which have been pivotal in bolstering the Somali forces’ operational capabilities against insurgent groups.
The talks signal an ongoing commitment from both nations to enhance regional security through robust military cooperation, underscoring the pivotal role Turkey plays in Somalia’s security landscape.
