Sheikh Mohamed Idris, a prominent Somali scholar, has called for an end to the escalating clan conflicts across various regions of the country.
Sheikh Idris described these ongoing clashes as senseless strife that brings no benefit in this life or the hereafter.
Sheikh Idris expressed deep regret that people who share the same religion and language are unable to reconcile, while nations across the globe, despite their differences, work together to prevent bloodshed and protect their resources.
Highlighting the urgent need for intervention, he emphasized the responsibility of those in positions of power and influence to mediate and find solutions to the violence. “This is a grave duty,” he said, “to stop the spilling of blood and ensure the survival of the nation.”
In his appeal to the warring factions, Sheikh Idris urged them to prioritize their faith and the hereafter, bury the hatchet and bring long lasting solutions.
“We are heading towards extinction if we don’t hold each other accountable. For over thirty years, blood has been flowing like water spilled on the ground. If we cannot resolve this among ourselves, let us invite other Muslims to mediate and bring peace,” he stated.
The Sheikh’s plea comes amidst growing calls from various sectors for an end to the violent clashes that have caused widespread loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property. Thousands have been displaced due to the ongoing conflict, leaving many in desperate need of aid and stability.
