Somali President Meets with German Ambassador to Bolster State-Building and Vocational Training Programs

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with German Ambassador to Somalia, Sebastian Groth, at the Somali Presidency on Friday to discuss expanding Germany’s role in supporting Somalia’s state-building initiatives. Key among the discussions was a focus on revitalizing vocational training programs critical to Somalia’s sustainable development and economic stability.

President Mohamud underscored the need for Germany’s continued assistance in areas essential to Somalia’s progress, with vocational training emerging as a priority. He emphasized that skilled training programs would not only help reduce unemployment but also provide a pathway to economic self-reliance, particularly for Somalia’s youth. “Revitalizing vocational training is essential for creating sustainable opportunities and building a stable society,” President Mohamud noted.

Ambassador Groth reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to Somalia’s development agenda, recognizing the importance of investing in the country’s education and skill-building sectors as foundational steps toward long-term stability. “Germany is dedicated to Somalia’s state-building and democratization efforts, and we see vocational training as a key part of that journey,” Ambassador Groth stated, according to a statement from Villa Somalia.

The meeting further highlighted the robust partnership between Somalia and Germany, with both nations committed to advancing Somalia’s democratization and development processes. As Somalia continues to face security and economic challenges, Germany’s support in vocational training aligns with broader international efforts to create pathways for sustainable growth and self-sufficiency.
