The Somali Police Force has arrested 24 youths accused of causing unrest during a football match on Saturday afternoon at the Eng. Yarisow Sports Stadium in Mogadishu. The incident occurred during a Banadir district competition match between Karaan and Wadajir districts.
In a statement, the Somali Police Command confirmed that the arrests were made following anti-security activities at the stadium. “This evening, an operation carried out by the Somali Police Force, particularly the General Police of the Banadir region, resulted in the arrest of 24 young suspects who engaged in actions that breach security during the match at Eng. Yarisow Sports Stadium,” the police stated.
The detained individuals are currently under investigation and will be brought before the relevant courts for legal proceedings.
The Somali Police Force also issued a stern warning to youth attending sports events in Mogadishu, urging them to refrain from activities that disrupt security. “Youth who come to watch games in the Banadir region are warned to avoid actions that jeopardize the stability of the matches and the rules of sportsmanship,” the statement added.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Somali Police to maintain security and ensure the smooth conduct of public events in Mogadishu.
