Somali Parliamentary Speaker meets U.S. Ambassador ahead of 7th session.

With Somalia’s 7th parliamentary session set to open in the coming days, the Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur “Aadan Madoobe,” has intensified diplomatic engagements with international partners.

On Sunday, Speaker Aadan Madoobe held talks in Mogadishu with U.S. Ambassador to Somalia Richard H. Riley, accompanied by Deputy Chief of Mission Justin Davis and Matthew Younger, the Embassy’s Head of Political Affairs.

Discussions centered on Somalia’s political process, including the completion of the country’s provisional constitution and the passage of key legislation critical to strengthening state institutions. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation in politics, security, and economic development.

The meeting comes as Parliament prepares to debate a recent agreement between the Federal Government and opposition leaders to revisit certain provisions of Chapter Four of the Constitution, particularly those related to the selection of the President and Members of Parliament.

In recent days, Speaker Aadan Madoobe has also received envoys from China, Qatar, the European Union, and the United Nations, in a series of consultations addressing Somalia’s political trajectory and governance reforms.

Parliament is expected to play a decisive role in the coming session, especially on matters of constitutional review and Somalia’s electoral future.
