Somali National Army concludes training for frontline Units in Baraawe.

The Somali National Army (SNA) has concluded a training program for frontline units of the 6th Battalion, 60th Land Forces, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational readiness and professionalism within the armed forces.

The training, conducted at the battalion’s headquarters on the outskirts of Baraawe, was overseen by Brigadier General Liibaan Yusuf Gare, Commander of the SNA’s 6th Brigade. It focused on strengthening the capacity of the troops to effectively carry out their national duty of defending the country.

According to military officials, the program aimed to improve combat preparedness, discipline, and coordination among the units, ahead of their deployment to active operations. The trained forces are expected to join ongoing security efforts targeting the Al-Shabaab militant group in the Lower Shabelle region and other parts of the country.

Speaking at the conclusion of the training, Brig. Gen. Liibaan Yusuf Gare commended the troops for their commitment and emphasized the importance of professionalism and readiness in safeguarding Somalia’s security and stability.

The training forms part of broader reforms within the Somali National Army aimed at building a capable, disciplined, and self-reliant national force. Authorities say such initiatives are essential to sustaining gains made in the fight against insurgent groups and ensuring long-term security across Somalia.

Lower Shabelle remains a strategic region in Somalia’s security landscape, with government forces continuing operations to secure key areas and protect civilian populations.
