The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Moallim, has on Saturday afternoon hosted a critical meeting with traditional elders at the agency’s headquarters to address escalating challenges threatening peace and stability in Somalia.
The meeting focused on resolving clan conflicts that could worsen the humanitarian crisis, while also promoting initiatives to support agriculture and ensure the protection of humanitarian workers. Speaking about the gathering, Commissioner Moallim stated, “It was an honor to host traditional elders at our SoDMA headquarters. Together, we are addressing conflict, promoting agriculture, protecting humanitarian workers, and ensuring aid reaches those in need.”
This engagement comes amid increasing concerns over the impact of inter-clan clashes on Somalia’s humanitarian situation, as these conflicts often hinder access to vulnerable populations in need of urgent assistance. The Commissioner emphasized the vital role of traditional elders in mediating disputes and promoting community harmony.
The elders pledged their commitment to working collaboratively with the government and SoDMA to de-escalate tensions and safeguard the delivery of aid across affected regions.
