SNA Airstrikes target AS key positions near Mahaas in Hiiraan Region

The Somali National Army conducted an airstrike operation in the village of Goobo, located about 10 kilometers north of Mahaas District in Hiiraan Region, within the HirShabelle State.

According to officers from the Somali National Army, members of AS fighters were reportedly gathering in the area with the intention of launching attacks on parts of Hiiraan.

The operation was reportedly carried out after their plans and intelligence information were obtained through an anti-insurgency operation.

In areas under Mahaas District, clashes have taken place over the past two days between federal government forces supported by organised local residents and AS fighters.

Yesterday, fighting was reported in the Sullaay and Waab settlements. Government forces claimed victory in those engagements, stating that they destroyed AS key bases and vehicles, as they said.

Federal government forces, alongside organised local forces and international security partners, continue their coordinated operations aimed at clearing AS from across the country and restoring security in affected areas.
