Two young men working as livestock herders in the Ruunirgood district of Middle Shabelle region were reportedly responsible for the killing of Hassan Alasow Rage, famous for Hassan Husuleey, who authorities said was a member of AS.
According to the report, after they killed the 50-year-old Hassan Alasow, the two youths allegedly took the AK47 rifle he was carrying. The alleged act was later praised by Somalia’s Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry urged local communities to increase operations against AS and to support the Federal Government’s forces, working alongside the forces backed by organised local forces known as Macawisley, in order to prevent any further threats posed by AS, as described in the statement.
The report said Hassan Alasow Rage had reportedly held positions in the past, including serving as head of Sakawaad in the Ruunirgood district, along with other roles.
In recent months, the report said, security operations have increased in parts of Hirshabelle and Galmudug, and local communities have been urged to coordinate their efforts to counter AS fighters.
Security agencies described the teenagers’ actions as a courageous contribution to the fight against Al-Shabaab and commended their bravery. They also urged communities across Hirshabelle and Galmudug to strengthen cooperation with security forces and intensify efforts
