Puntland Vice President Ahmed Elmi Osman (Karaash) has escalated tensions between him and Said Deni by issuing a decree naming a new minister last night
Ahmed Karaash replaced his nominees with those close to Said Deni, without earlier announcing their removal and the ministers includes the interior, finance and security ministers.
The Minister of Interior, Federalism and Democratization of Puntland has been appointed to be Abdiqani Hashi Ali Isse (Bumbo).
Ahmed Haji Ibrahim Artan (Bakiin) has been named Puntland’s Minister of Security and DDR, while Abdirizak Mire Hassan (Gawiido) has been named Puntland’s Minister of Finance.
The appointment will take effect last night and was signed by Puntland Acting President Ahmed Karaash.
Puntland is embroiled in a political crisis with a dispute between the vice president and Said Deni over his decision to run for the presidency of Somalia without stepping down, leading to a rift between government institutions and the administration in Puntland.
