Puntland FMS Rejects Recognition of SSC Khatumo Governance Structure Reaffirms Control Over Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn

The Puntland FMS has officially declared that it does not recognize the governance structure of SSC Khaatumo, asserting that the regions of Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn legally belong to Puntland.

This announcement came in a press release from the Puntland Ministry of Interior.

According to the statement, the clans involved in the formation of SSC Khaatumo were part of the Puntland establishment, and any changes regarding their status should emerge from a legitimate consultative process.

“Until a legal framework is established through consultation, the regions of Sool and Cayn, along with their clans, remain part of Puntland,” the statement read.

Furthermore, Puntland FMS accused the Federal Government of Somalia of interference. In the statement, they condemned the federal government’s actions, claiming it poses a threat to the security and stability of Puntland.

“We strongly denounce the federal government’s meddling in our affairs, which aims to disrupt our security,” the announcement continued.

This declaration from Puntland coincides with ongoing consultative meetings in Laascaanood, where efforts are being made to finalize the governance structure of SSC Khaatumo. These discussions are crucial for the future political landscape of the region.

The situation is said to reflects the complex dynamics between Puntland and SSC Khaatumo, highlighting the ongoing challenges in governance and territorial claims in Somalia. As both sides navigate their positions, the potential for conflict or cooperation remains uncertain.
