Presidents of Somalia and Somaliland Set for Djibouti Meeting to Revive Talks

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the Presidents of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, are poised to engage in a face-to-face meeting in Djibouti within the next few hours. Both leaders are expected to depart from Mogadishu and Hargeisa, landing in Djibouti, where Djibouti’s President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, is reportedly facilitating the meeting.

The primary focus of the anticipated talks will revolve around addressing the current situation in Somalia and Somaliland, with an emphasis on restarting discussions that have been in suspension for the past five years. The meeting will bring together ministers from the respective governments, along with the envoy of the President of Somalia responsible for talks with Somaliland, Abdikarin Hussein Guled.

This isn’t the first encounter between Presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Muse Bihi Abdi, as they met in Djibouti last year during the same month. Expectations are high for positive outcomes from this meeting, with hopes that it will mark a significant step towards fostering dialogue and cooperation between Somalia and Somaliland.
