President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Thursday concluded Somalia’s annual Ramadan Quran recitation competition, rewarding the top seven competitors with cash prizes ranging from $2,000 to $20,000.
The prestigious competition, sponsored by Villa Somalia, brought together talented Quran reciters from across the country. This year’s top prize was claimed by 14-year-old Abdirahman Abdullahi Osman from BuurHakaba town in the Bay region, representing Somalia’s South West State.
During the award ceremony, President Mohamud congratulated the young reciters and their families, emphasizing the importance of Quranic education in Somali society. He encouraged the youth to continue their studies and deepen their knowledge of the Holy Quran.
The annual competition serves as a platform for recognizing young scholars and promoting Islamic education across the country. The government said it also reflects the government’s commitment to supporting religious learning and preserving Somalia’s rich Islamic heritage.
