The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, spoke at the 17th Al Jazeera Forum, held from February 7 to 9, 2026, where he addressed the issues Israel has caused in Palestine, its interference in Somalia, changes within the country, and the aspirations for a Palestinian state.
In his speech, President Hassan Sheikh emphasized Somalia’s support for the construction of a Palestinian government, stating that the only viable solution is for the Palestinians to have a strong, independent state free from Israeli interference and suffering.
Regarding Somalia, he discussed ongoing operations against ISIS and Al-Shabaab, the importance of the Red Sea corridor, and the challenges posed by Israeli interference.
“Somalia has made progress in the global fight against terrorism. This struggle encompasses military, economic, and ideological efforts, supported by our international partners. I commend the heroes sacrificing their lives for our country to defeat terrorism,” said President Hassan
He highlighted that Somalia is facing significant challenges in resisting Israeli interventions, particularly noting actions taken in December 2025 that violated international laws.
“The Somali government has stood against the Israeli violations that took place in December regarding the unity of the country, an act contrary to international laws and the principles upheld by the African Union,” President Hassan Sheikh stated.
He also pointed out Israel’s interests in the Red Sea, of which Somalia is a part, criticizing Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration for destabilizing the region.
“The Red Sea is foundational to global security and commerce, shared by many countries, including Somalia. Israel’s unlawful attempts to create instability through its interference in Somalia contradict African principles,” he continued.
To protect its unity, Somalia has taken significant steps to counter Israeli ambitions, emphasizing that the ongoing division undermines international law and efforts to prevent conflicts that could overflow from Palestine to Somalia.
The Al Jazeera Forum, attended by President Hassan Sheikh, is an annual conference analyzing geographical changes, political issues, and current situations, focusing on Israeli interference and the impacts on various regions, including Palestine.
