On Tuesday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially laid the foundation stone for the Gateway Complex, a transformative development project located near Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport. The project funded by Premier Bank together with international investors, aims to boost Mogadishu’s economy, attract international investment, and improve the quality of life for residents.
The Gateway Complex will feature a five-star hotel with 261 rooms,residential apartments,Conference and meeting facilities. Other features include shopping mall, a state-of-the-art hospital and educational institutions.
The project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs during its construction and operation phases, providing opportunities for local businesses and enhancing the city’s economic and social landscape.
The launch event was attended by several high-ranking government officials, including: Minister of Finance,Minister of Planning and International Cooperation.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion include Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism,Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia as well as Members of Parliament.
Speaking at the event, Premier Bank Chairman Jibril Hassan Mohamed emphasized the significance of the project, noting that the land for the complex was leased from the Central Bank of Somalia. He highlighted the Gateway Complex as a Somali-led initiative with a vision to elevate the nation’s development.
Dr. Ali Yasin Sheikh, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, underscored the societal benefits of the project, particularly in healthcare and education.
Minister of Information Daud Aweys Jama expressed gratitude to Premier Bank for spearheading a project that will significantly boost international tourism and strengthen Somalia’s image on the global stage.
President Hassan Sheikh praised the efforts of Premier Bank and its partners, stating:
“Gateway Complex is not just a project; it’s a symbol of confidence in Somalia’s potential, investment climate that it has . It will create jobs, attract investments, and provide critical services that will uplift the quality of life for our citizens.”
The Gateway Complex is expected to position Mogadishu as a regional hub for business, healthcare, and tourism. The project will generate thousands of jobs, stimulate local businesses, and contribute to the city’s transformation into a vibrant economic and social center.
