Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has dismissed Supreme Court Chief Justice Bashir Yusuf Ahmed and appointed lawyer Ibrahim Idle Suleiman as his successor in a move the presidency says is part of broader judicial reforms.
According to the presidency, the changes are “intended to address concerns raised by judges, court staff and legal professionals and improve the administration of justice” .
The reform agenda is also aimed at strengthening transparency, protecting judicial independence and restoring public confidence in the justice system.
The appointment of Suleiman marks a leadership change at Somalia’s highest court as the government seeks to improve the performance and accountability of judicial institutions.
