High-Stakes Dialogue: Somaliland Reveals Details of Meeting with Somali President in Djibouti

Hargeisa, Somaliland, Somaliland has given official details that President Muse Bihi Abdi, accompanied by a high-level delegation, departed for Djibouti this morning to engage in crucial talks with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The purpose of the visit, as stated in a press release from the Somaliland Presidency, is to continue the ongoing dialogue between Somaliland and Somalia, now escalating to the level of Presidents.

The discussions between Somaliland and Somalia have unfolded intermittently over the past ten years, marked by challenges and a lack of concrete results. Djibouti’s President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, has previously facilitated meetings between the two sides, underscoring the regional commitment to fostering diplomatic solutions.

President Muse Bihi Abdi is joined by a delegation featuring key ministers, including Dr. Saad Ali Shire (Finance), Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Diriye (Planning), Mr. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed (Internal Affairs), and Ahmed Aden Buxane (Education). Additionally, Somaliland’s Special Envoy responsible for the Somaliland-Somalia dialogue, Mrs. Edna Adan Ismail, is already in Djibouti ahead of the President’s delegation.

The international community closely watches this diplomatic endeavor, hoping that the meeting between President Muse Bihi Abdi and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will pave the way for constructive dialogue and substantial progress between Somaliland and Somalia.
