Galmudug FMS Troops Arrive in Maxaas to Reinforce Fight Against Al-Shabaab

Fresh military reinforcements from the Galmudug Federal Member State of Somalia arrived in Maxaas district of Hiiraan region late Friday evening, joining the local community and security forces in their ongoing efforts to counter Al-Shabaab insurgents.

Local journalists and residents confirmed that troops from Guriceel town in central Galmudug were deployed to Maxaas in a show of regional solidarity and to bolster the frontline defenses. A video circulating on social media showed a convoy of military vehicles entering the town as residents watched.

The deployment is part of a wider effort to stabilize central Somalia, where Al-Shabaab has recently intensified its operations. The support from Galmudug comes at a critical moment as the national army, backed by local fighters and regional allies, continues to resist the group’s renewed offensives.

Maxaas, located in the heart of the Hiiraan region, has become a flashpoint in the Somali government’s counterterrorism campaign. The town has witnessed periodic attacks and remains a key target in the struggle against the Alshabab group.

Regional cooperation among Somalia’s federal member states has been instrumental in recent counterinsurgency operations. The arrival of reinforcements from Galmudug demonstrates a growing willingness among federal units to coordinate military responses and ensure territorial gains are preserved.

Security officials in the area say operations will continue with renewed intensity in the coming days, aiming to dislodge Al-Shabaab from remaining pockets of control in Hiiraan and beyond.
