The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has ordered that Somalia’s national flag be lowered for three days to honor the late former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away yesterday.
According to the report, the purpose of this measure is to ensure that the Somali people and the government share in the mourning and grief, especially in recognition of the late emir’s long rule of Qatar and his role in supporting the country’s development.
Qatar began a period of four days of mourning starting yesterday. The country has offered condolences and has seen the arrival of various visiting officials, while others are expected to arrive shortly as part of the official condolences process.
Several other countries have also sent condolences to Qatar to the family following the death of the late Emir. International leaders and official delegations have expressed their deep sympathy, recognizing his long leadership of the country and the role Qatar plays in regional and global diplomacy.
