Federal Government Forces launch tough operations against AS in Hirshabelle and Galmudug

The Federal Government of Somalia has begun tough military operations against AS fighters with its forces operating in areas under the member states of Hirshabelle and Galmudug, where there is also ongoing mobilization of fighters.

The federal troops are reportedly being supported by organised local forces known as Macawisley. These groups had previously been part of the operations, but they had temporarily stopped due to a pause in the activities.

Now, the government says it intends to restart the operations under a different approach than before.

The newly launched campaign is reportedly focused on areas where AS is believed to be present within Hirshabelle and Galmudug.

The forces involved were deployed following meetings related to the mission with the Minister of Defence of Somalia** and the Commander of the Somali National Army.

The Federal Government stated that these new targeted operations will differ from the previous ones. It emphasized that strong preparations have been made for carrying out the plan, including military-related measures kept confidential.
