Federal Government forces conduct tough operations against Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle

Federal Government forces of Somalia have reportedly launched operations against Al-Shabaab in areas surrounding Awdheegle, a town in the Lower Shabelle region of the South West State, according to various sources.

The operation comes after government troops, in collaboration with the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), particularly Ugandan forces, successfully secured several territories within the Lower Shabelle region.

This coordinated effort aims to disrupt Al-Shabaab’s influence and restore security in the area.

During the operations, the forces have thoroughly searched key roads to detect and clear any planted landmines. They are also inspecting vehicles traveling between the regions to ensure the safety of civilians and disrupt potential attacks by the militant group.

Recently, military leaders and officials from the Ministry of Defense, along with ATMIS personnel, visited the Awdheegle district.

They discussed strategies to enhance ongoing operations and improve coordination between local and international forces in combating the Al-Shabaab threat.

These efforts reflect Somalia’s commitment to reclaiming control over regions affected by militant activities, aiming to establish a safer environment for its citizens and foster long-term stability in the country.
