Federal and South West Governments Collaborate to Resolve Clan Conflict in Lower Shabelle

In a coordinated effort to address ongoing clan conflicts in the Lower Shabelle region, officials from Somalia’s Federal Government and the South West Regional Government have launched a joint initiative aimed at ending the violence and restoring peace in the troubled area.

The conflict, which has embroiled several communities in the region, has prompted urgent action from both levels of government. A delegation led by the Governor of Lower Shabelle, alongside military officers, has been dispatched to Number Konton area and surrounding locations, where tensions have been particularly high. Their mission is to mediate between the warring clans and put an end to the hostilities that have destabilized the region.

In a statement, officials expressed optimism that a lasting resolution can be achieved. They emphasized the importance of ensuring that the local population feels secure and can remain in their homes without fear of being targeted by armed groups. The ongoing conflict has caused significant displacement and insecurity, with many residents fearing for their lives.

The Lower Shabelle regional government has taken a firm stance against the armed militias responsible for the violence. Authorities have vowed to crack down on “those inciting inter-clan rivalries and perpetuating the cycle of violence.”
