The Prime Minister of the federal government of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble has released the list of sixty seven Members (67)that he has been asked to remove from the electoral commission of Somalia over wide range of allegations .
Abdirahman Yusuf Al Adala, the spokesman of the commission that has been appointed by Prime Minister to look in to the allegations who is also the deputy Information Minister presented the names of the members.
According to sources, 61 of these members have been referred directly to Roble’s office, four to the office of the Speaker of the Upper House and one to the board of Parliament office.
Concerns against these members include being civil servants , security officials, being spy agents and some supporters of outgoing Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo ahead of the polls.
The Opposition claims that President Farmaajo plans to use some members in the disputed list to ” steal and rig the elections to produce a predetermined list of MPs in his favour ”
An agreement reached by Somali leaders in Mogadishu last thursday stipulates the removal of these members as part of resolving the impediment to holding free and fair elections.
Representing the council of presidential candidates, former Somalia presidents Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and former Galmudug leader Abdikarin Guled met with the Prime minister yesterday and handed over a list of members that had raised serious concerns which they believe are likely to compromise free and fair elections over the allegations.
PM Roble has the huge task of ensuring the election teams are neutral and the voting exercise is free, fair, and transparent and that all players see him as the neutral driver in the crucial transition period.
