October 31, 2023; Dhusamareb, Galgaduud, Galmudug: Tensions remain high in the Galgaduud region of Galmudug as reports continue to emerge of a clan conflict that erupted yesterday in the town of Dhusamareb. The strife was instigated by clashes between two clan militias, resulting in multiple casualties, including fatalities and injuries.
Hananbuure, a region located approximately 45 kilometers from Dhusamareb, has become a focal point of this ongoing conflict. Yesterday, a violent confrontation between the two tribal militias occurred in Hananbuure, leading to the tragic loss of at least seven lives, with numerous individuals sustaining injuries.
The conflict is reported to have ignited over a dispute concerning a water well construction project in the area. The two rival militias are still locked in a fierce battle, threatening the stability of the region.
Despite the ongoing hostilities, there are reports of peace initiatives underway. Local intellectuals and Galmudug authorities are actively engaged in efforts to mediate and separate the warring factions in Hananbuure.
This unfortunate conflict in Galgaduud coincides with another communal war raging in the Middle Shabelle region, which has resulted in substantial losses, including casualties, displacement, and the destruction of homes.
