The city of Jowhar is set to host elections today for two vacant seats in the House of the People of Somalia’s Federal Parliament—specifically, seats HOP097 and HOP098.
The seats became vacant following the recent deaths of Minister Khadiija Mohamed Diiriye and Member of Parliament Mahamud Mohamed Jimale (Seysey), both of whom were serving members of parliament.
The candidates contesting these seats are Abdikarim Mohamed Diiriye for HOP097 and Abduqadir Mahamud Mohamed (Seysey) for HOP098.
The two candidates are among four who met all the requirements set by the National Electoral Commission and were officially issued certificates of candidacy in Jowhar.
The election will be witnessed by clan delegates eligible to vote, government officials, and independent observers
