Armed assailants shot and killed prominent businessman Siyaad Ali Hirsi in northern Galkayo on Tuesday afternoon, eyewitnesses and local sources confirmed.
The incident occurred at the victim’s business premises in the city center. Witnesses said the gunmen opened fire before fleeing the scene. Hirsi was rushed to a nearby medical facility but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Security forces from Puntland authorities immediately launched large-scale operations across Galkayo, searching for the perpetrators. Officials said the killing fits into a worrying pattern of targeted assassinations in the city, often linked to clan vendettas.
The latest attack comes amid rising insecurity in Galkayo. Recently, two doctors were killed in similar shootings, sparking fear among residents. The perpetrators of those attacks have yet to be apprehended.
Puntland security agencies have vowed to intensify their efforts to bring those responsible to justice and restore public confidence.
