AUSSOM reports security compliance challenges at Shaati Gadud Airport in Baidoa

The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), particularly its Third Sector operating in South West State, has reported challenges with security screening procedures in Baidoa, the capital of Bay region.

Third Sector Commander Lieutenant Colonel Fikadu Jifar Siyum said security personnel conducting checks on people, vehicles and luggage at Shaati Gaduud Airport often encounter civilians and officials who refuse to undergo mandatory screening.

Siyum said experienced security personnel have been able to convince those who resist to comply with the screening procedures and follow the instructions of officers on duty.

“Civilians and officials refuse to comply with mandatory security screening procedures, which everyone is required to undergo. This is one of the challenges we have faced,” Siyum said.

He added that AUSSOM forces continue to play a role in maintaining security in Baidoa in cooperation with Somali federal forces and South West State Darwish forces.

Siyum also praised the Somali security forces for their cooperation with AUSSOM in efforts to strengthen security in the city.
