At least two civilians have been killed in the town of Abudwaaq in the Galgaduud region yesterday after security personnel guarding Galmudug presidential candidate Liban Ahmed reportedly opened fire on civilians.
The incident occurred while the town was hosting a rally welcoming the candidate during his visit to Abudwaaq.
According to information from sources, the violence began after some of the young attendees at the rally got into scuffles and created commotion, prompting the security forces to use live ammunition on people at the scene.
The reports state that the shootings resulted in the deaths of the two people, while other civilians were also injured.
Abudwaaq’s situation is ongoing, and there has been no official statement yet from candidate Liban Ahmed or the district administration regarding the reported casualties.
The situation in Abudwaaq is reported to be calm as of today, with heightened tensions having eased following the incident.
