Hundreds of people have been rescued in the third phase of a United Nations operation to evacuate people stranded in Mariupol, dubbed “People must be saved from hell.”
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an immediate end to hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. Anything can be done to evacuate these people to prevent a serious Russian attack on the positions of the Ukrainian Army & its allies.
An estimated 200 civilians are believed to be in the area, and the United Nations is planning to evacuate them to a safer location.
Russia has concentrated its efforts on capturing the city of Mariupol to end the fighting that began on February 24, 2022, and it took Moscow a long time for its troops to take control of Ukraine’s defensive territory.
Moscow has stepped up its fight against Ukraine, with Russian President Vladimir Putin telling his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron a few days ago that Western powers should put pressure on Ukraine to stop fighting.
Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary-general on a visit to Kyiv, said he had heard heavy artillery shelling in Ukraine and expressed concern about the situation and sent an urgent alarm.
