Al-Shabaab retreats, Flees Galgaduud Regions Eastward Amidst Government’s Preparations for a Major Liberation Offensive

Al-Shabaab has been retreating towards areas east of Dhusomareeb, as a major offensive is being prepared to liberate regions under their control in Galgaduud.

Reports indicate they left locations about 50 km east of Dhusomareeb, fearing the upcoming phase to liberate Hirshabelle and Galmudug.

Recently, they withdrew their forces from El-Lahelay, near Dhusamareb, and returned some vehicles taken by force to the residents.

Credible sources reveal they have moved their heavy weapons to Elbur district and other strongholds.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to Dhusamareb coincided with their departure, as he rallies support for the government’s war against Al-Shabaab.

The Prime Minister of Somalia has officially announced the commencement of the second phase of the offensive against the group.
