The Hirshabelle State administration has raised alarm over increased activities by the militant group Al-Shabaab (AS) in parts of Middle Shabelle region, vowing to intensify military operations to counter the threat.
Speaking to the media, Hirshabelle’s Minister for Interior Affairs, Abdirahman Dahir Guure, confirmed that Al-Shabaab fighters have recently concentrated their operations in the region and are believed to be planning attacks.
“Al-Shabaab militants have moved from Jilib and Lower Shabelle, crossing the river into Middle Shabelle with a specific agenda. We are currently confronting them in areas like Wargaadhi, Cadale, and Raaga-Ceelle. They have also attempted to enter the Hiiraan region, but we have successfully repelled them,” said Minister Guure.
The Minister also emphasized that ongoing operations against the militant group would be strengthened in both Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
This development underscores the persistent security challenges in central Somalia, as regional authorities continue efforts to prevent Al-Shabaab from regaining ground in liberated areas.
