Al-Shabaab has destroyed communication masts and water wells in Qayib town adding a burden to an already dire situation occasioned by devastating drought and water scarcity.
The group carried out this destruction a day before they left the town of Qaib, where the country’s armed forces took control of it.
Photographs taken show the extensive damage caused by al-Shabaab in Qayib, which is 30 km southwest of Bahdo district in Galgaduud region.
In 2015, Alshabaab took over this area from Galmudug forces. It was an important strategic area for Al-Shabaab, and the Al-Shabaab court used to judge people.
It was also seen as an area where they used to organize attacks in Galgaduud and Mudug areas. The current uprising against al-Shabaab started after they destroyed the water wells and burned the villages in other areas.
