A section of the Somalia disciplined forces on Wednesday opened fire on a convoy carrying the country’s 8th president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The attack that happened near the Benadir regional court in Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne estate did not cause any casualties, Somali security officials told Mustaqbal.
The guards on board the vehicle reportedly did not respond to the shots as was advised by Hassan Sheikh and no casualties were reported.
The Somalia disciplined forces has one of their control base in the area in which the incident occurred. It is the same spot where gun shots were sprayed at a delegation that were accompanying Somali cultural production team.
The incident comes as the country prepares for elections and implementation of the election agreement announced fortnight ago.
The first steps in the implementation process include the removal of the disputed members of Somalia’s electoral commissions who have been referred to the Prime Minister’s Office.
” Troops guarding the vicinity of the Benadir regional Court opened fire on President Hassan Sheikh’s convey this afternoon. Prime Minister Roble must take immediate action and bring the culprits to book and any party who issued the order for the attack. This afternoon’s attack will be the third targeting of President Hassan Sheikh, ”said Mahad Mohamed Salad, a member of the Somali parliament.
Galmudug state security Minister Ahmed Maalim Fiqo said the attack was carried by
“Soldiers near the Benadir regional Court who opened fire on the car of President Hassan Sheikh, who survived the attack,”
