Fifty-six Ethiopian migrants who had been stranded in Bossaso, Puntland, have safely returned to Ethiopia with support from Somali authorities and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The group included 10 unaccompanied children, according to the IOM, which said the migrants received assistance through the Migration Resource Centre in coordination with the relevant government institutions.
The repatriation was supported by the Puntland Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, and IOM’s Migration Resource Centre.
IOM highlighted the serious risks faced by stranded migrants, including human trafficking, exploitation and other forms of abuse, emphasizing the importance of protection and humanitarian assistance for vulnerable migrants.
The safe return of the group underscores ongoing efforts by Somali authorities and international partners to provide protection and support to migrants stranded along migration routes in the Horn of Africa.
