The Federal Government of Somalia has expressed strong concern over the engagement between Israel and Somaliland, warning that any diplomatic or political dealings conducted outside the framework of the Federal Government violate Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement issued on Monday, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said it was deeply concerned by reports of contacts between the Israeli administration and what it described as the “secessionist administration” in the northern region of Somalia.
The ministry emphasized that Somalia remains a sovereign and internationally recognized state, and that the Federal Government is the sole legitimate authority responsible for representing the country in international affairs.
“Any political, diplomatic, or other engagement with the secessionist administration that bypasses the Federal Government of Somalia is inconsistent with international law and carries no legal or political standing,” the statement said.
The government called on the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), IGAD, and other international partners to uphold international law and respect Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Mogadishu further urged the international community to condemn actions that it said undermine the unity and stability of the Somali state.
The statement comes amid reports of growing contacts between Israel and Somaliland, including the reported visit of Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Cirro” to Israel, developments that have attracted significant attention across the Horn of Africa.
Somalia reiterated that it reserves the right to take all lawful diplomatic, legal, and political measures necessary to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity.
Despite its concerns, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful dialogue, regional stability, and constructive engagement with international partners, while stressing that it would not accept actions that threaten the unity of the Somali people.
