The Federal Government of Somalia and the Arab Republic of Egypt have dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the Somali passport has been suspended for travel to Egypt.
Flights operating between Somalia and Egypt were functioning normally on Friday, with no changes reported in travel or immigration procedures between the two countries.
In a statement, EgyptAir officially denied the claims, clarifying that there has been no “suspension or restriction on the acceptance of Somali passports” . The airline confirmed that Somali passengers “holding valid travel documents and the required entry permits are able to travel to Cairo as usual” .
Similarly, Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency affirmed that movement between the two countries remains unchanged. The agency urged the public to disregard unverified information and rely on official sources for accurate updates.
The false reports, which spread widely over the past several hours, caused concern among Somali travelers planning to visit or transit through Egypt.
Egypt and Somalia maintain strong diplomatic relations and long-standing cooperation in key areas including education, politics, trade, and security. Officials from both sides reiterated their commitment to preserving smooth travel arrangements and strengthening bilateral ties.
