Somali President Sends Condolences to Nigeria Over Passing of Former President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria following the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away earlier this week.

In a message posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), President Mohamud expressed solidarity with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (@officialABAT) and extended his sympathies to the bereaved family and the nation at large.

“On behalf of the people and Government of Somalia, I extend my sincere condolences to H.E. President @officialABAT, the Government, and the people of Nigeria on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. His lifelong service and commitment to Nigeria’s stability and progress will be remembered.”

The late President Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, was a former military ruler turned democratically elected leader. He is widely remembered for his anti-corruption drive, efforts to stabilize Nigeria’s economy, and military campaigns against Boko Haram and other extremist groups in northeastern Nigeria.

President Mohamud praised Buhari’s legacy as a leader who devoted his life to the service of his country and the continent. “He was not only a statesman for Nigeria but also a prominent voice in African affairs,” he added.

News of Buhari’s passing has sparked tributes from leaders across the African continent and beyond, acknowledging his role in regional security, economic development, and institutional reform.

The Government of Nigeria has announced a national mourning period and will release funeral arrangements in due course.
