Jubbaland State President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, known as Ahmed Madobe, recently held a consultative meeting with representatives of the Somali Federal Parliament from his administration in Kismayo.
The meeting was attended by some of the representatives from both the House of the People and the Upper House, representing Jubbaland in the Federal Parliament’s 11th term.
Madobe invited these representatives to engage in discussions to reinforce dialogue and coordination between Jubbaland and the federal government according to reports.
While some of the representatives accepted his invitation and traveled to Kismayo, others have yet to arrive at the temporary seat of the Jubbaland administration according to reports.
It remains unclear whether those who haven’t arrived intend to attend the meeting at a later date or oppose the consultative effort completely.
This meeting comes after President Madobe exited the National Consultative Council meeting on October 7, following disagreements with other council members regarding the implementation of a one-person-one-vote electoral process.
Since then, Madobe has been conducting meetings with various Somali political figures and federal representatives to strengthen relations and resolve misunderstandings.
Last week, he hosted a delegation from Nairobi, which came to Kismayo with the aim of mediating between Jubbaland’s leadership and the Somali Federal Government, highlighting efforts to bridge differences on critical governance and electoral issues.
