Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Chief of the Hamas Political Bureau, calling it a “perfidious assassination” aimed at undermining Palestinian resistance and disrupting the Palestinian cause.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Erdogan expressed his condolences, stating, “May God have mercy on my brother Ismail Haniyeh, fallen in martyrdom after this odious attack.” He emphasized that the killing was an attempt to break the will of the Palestinian people and intimidate them.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement condemning the attack as “heinous,” warning that it could exacerbate regional tensions.
The Ministry suggested that the assassination might be a tactic to spread the conflict in Gaza to a broader regional scale and called on the international community to intervene to prevent further escalation.
Erdogan’s comments reflect Turkey’s ongoing support for the Palestinian cause and its critical stance toward actions perceived as undermining Palestinian sovereignty and resistance.
