Mogadishu, Somalia – May 19, 2024; The Federal Government of Somalia announced that an Al-Shabaab officer, Abdulkadir Haji Eenow, was killed in a targeted operation conducted in the Golweyn area of the Lower Shabelle region. This operation was part of ongoing efforts by the Somali National Army (SNA) to combat terrorism and secure the region.
According to the government, the operation was meticulously planned and executed after receiving “comprehensive intelligence about the location and activities of Abdulkadir Haji Eenow.” The 26th unit, 6th battalion of the 60th division of the SNA carried out the mission, leading to the elimination of the Al-Shabaab officer.
All Farah Mohamud Hirsi, the commander of the 26th unit, confirmed that they had been closely monitoring Eenow’s movements and activities, which ultimately led to the successful operation. “We have been tracking the activities and gathering information on Abdulqadir Haji Eenow for a significant period, and today’s operation marks a critical victory in our ongoing fight against terrorism,” Hirsi stated.
The Federal Government forces have been intensifying their operations in the Lower Shabelle region, which falls under the jurisdiction of the South West Regional Government. These operations have included targeted strikes and ground assaults aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab’s stronghold in the area.
The killing of Abdulkadir Haji Eenow is seen as a significant blow to Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities in Lower Shabelle. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing these operations until the region is fully secured and terrorist activities are completely eradicated.
